Board Member

Terence Nombembe joined the IFAC Board in March 2015. He was nominated by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
Mr. Nombembe currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of SAICA, a position he has held since January 2014. Prior to that, he was South Africa’s Auditor-General, taking on that role after serving as Deputy Auditor-General. During his tenure as Auditor-General, he was President of the African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI) and the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). Previously, he worked for many years as an internal auditor and financial manager at BP Southern Africa (Pty) Limited and Unilever South Africa (Pty) Limited. He was also a partner in a medium-sized accountancy practice in Cape Town.
Mr. Nombembe is a Trustee Member of the SAICA’s Thuthuka Bursary Fund, and has served as a board member of the South African Reserve Bank since June 2014. He is a past board member of the South African Accounting Standards Board. He was also a member of the IFAC Public Sector Committee (now the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board®).
A qualified Chartered Accountant since 1990, Mr. Nombembe completed his training at KPMG and received an honorary doctorate in Accounting Science from South Africa’s Walter Sisulu University in 2014.
